"Maritime roaming" enables the use of a mobile telephone at sea as well as anywhere on land, outside Telenor network.
Maritime Communications Partner, owned by Telenor, is fully-licensed maritime telecommunication provider which covers more than 100 large cruises and ferries in Caribbean area, Europe and Australia/South Pacific.
Maritime Communication Partners Company enables coverage by the signal connecting ships with public networks via a satellite. MCP offers its services through roaming contracts with mobile operators throughout the world. Roaming service at sea is automatically switched off when a ship approaches the coast, in order to avoid interference with the mobile operators offering the service on land. Telenor Company, through the roaming contract with MCP, has enabled its users the use of as much as a 3G signal if they use the services of shipping companies with which MCP cooperates. That means that directly, even by way of a video call, you may transmit the atmosphere to your closest family/friends.
MCP network is dialed automatically, where there is the signal coverage. A customer will know that he/she is registered in MCP network when, on the screen of the telephone (2G+ and 3G+), there appears: “MCP” or “90112". However, the customers who use CDMA mobile telephone will have the following on their screens: "Roaming” or "Digital Roaming".
From MCP network calls are made in the international format: + 382 69 xxx xxx. Bearing in mind that this connection is established via a satellite, there is a possibility to loose the network for a moment. In such a case, the subscriber needs to try to activate it once again.
