Something About Streaming...
Streaming is the technology that enables broadcasting of video/audio materials via Internet, irrespective of whether it is a live-broadcast program or a recording. Internet connection can be realized via GPRS, EDGE or 3G service.
Actually, Streaming implies watching or listening to the media "at request", without the need for downloading. That means that, when you send the request for a video or audio material, that material starts immediately "flowing" towards you, and its continuity will depend on the quality of your Internet connection.
For the requirements of watching or listening to streaming media, adequate players are also required, which are capable of displaying the broadcast programs in the suitable format. Among the majority of mobile terminals that support the Streaming Service, the most popular players are the players of the companies Microsoft and Real. Telephones, i.e. their players, in order to be able to use streaming in our network, should support the commonest – 3GPP format, which is otherwise the only video standard in mobile telephony. Other formats are not standard ones and, therefore, we do not support them.
In order to be on the safe side with respect to the issue of continuity in receiving the programs the broadcasting of which is underway, players have the option of buffering, which manages to store the material in the temporary/buffer memory. With this option, the players also download the additional media (the part of the media that are yet to be broadcast), in order to have permanent, constant inflow of video/audio material. As a rule, the faster your Internet connection, the better the quality of delivered streaming material.
What Are the Advantages of Video Streaming Compared to the Usual Download of Video Clips?
The first advantage is that you do not have to wait for a file to be downloaded. Downloading takes place in real time so that you do not need a space in the telephone memory to record what interests you in order to watch that.
Streaming is the only way to LIVE watch/listen to the programs of Television and Radio stations or direct broadcasts of matches/games and other LIVE events via Internet.
Setting of the player and creating ProMEDIA profile for streaming materials
In order for you to be enabled to have the Streaming Service, it is necessary for you to have:
- A telephone that supports streaming materials
-
Activated GPRS service (for free-of-charge activation, call Customer Service Center dialing 1188 or visit one of our authorized representative offices)
-
Properly set up GPRS service in your telephone
-
Properly set up media player of your telephone.
You can set up your media player automatically or manually.
You may carry out automatic setting:
1. By sending to yourself the settings from our Web page http://set.vor.telenor.me
2. calling the Customer Service Center 1188
Manual setting of media players
Manual setting is necessary in case the media player of your telephone does not support automatic configuration, and it is done according to the instructions for manual setting of media players.
General parameters for Telenor MEDIA service are:
Profile = Telenor MNE Media APN = media Username = media Password = media
For proper operation of Media service, in Nokia models that belong to the series S60 of the Symbian operating system, in Real player, it is also necessary to adjust the advanced settings, which are related to GPRS and EDGE bandwidth, as follows:
Quality of Streaming
The quality of Streaming depends on the transmission speed and it is expressed in kbit/s (kilo bit per second). The higher the speed, the better the quality of reproduction of the material. A major difference is noticed if you have EDGE service activated. (It is also necessary for the very terminal to have support for EDGE.) Activated EDGE service can also be taken as Telenor’s recommendation concerning the use of the Streaming Service. Also please note that EDGE is supported in the entire Telenor’s network.
